Johnny Depp in Public Enemies

The year is 1933, it’s the Great Depression. Suits are required for all occasions, hair must be meticuously maintained and the first alleged modern sighting of the Loch Ness Monster has just occured.

Prepare yourself for Public Enemies.

Simply put, this film is cool. Style is so important to the characters of this decade that they rob banks wearing suits and hats. Their hair is sharp yet effortless, much like their bank heists. And if you aren’t blown away by the sexy fashion then wait until you see the muzzle flash of a tommy gun.

The shootouts in this film were definitely one of the highlights, with every gun shot leaving the cinema rumbling with a bassy echo. The amount of destruction and chaos caused by firearms in this film rivals many action films set in current times. In some ways the guns sound much more powerful than modern replacements.

The storyline, while easy to follow, seemed to be lacking in character development. While the movie was based around John Dillinger, by the end of the film you were still left wondering who exactly he was. Nevertheless Public Enemies is cinematically outstanding and highly entertaining.

Reasons to see it:
Ladies – you’re in for a treat as Johhny Depp plays the role of John Dillinger in a way that is confident, yet easily likeable.
Gents – Guns… lots of guns.
